    Score with a scoring tool.

Mix 1 cup of Downey fabric softener to 1 gallon of warm water. Wipe onto the border. Wait 10 minutes and peel off.

I use a 50/50 mix of hot water and vinegar in a spray bottle. Wet it down and let it work for a while. Scrape off with a putty knife. Wash off glue residue with thw same mixture. You can also use a sponge to wet it down.

Peel as much as possible. Mix fabric softener or vinegar with warm water in a spray bottle, half and half. Saturate and wait a bit. Scrape with plastic scraper. Clean with soapy water and microfiber to remove residue.

I use a car sponge and laundry softner in hot water in a dish pan, be sure to put down plastic drop cloths taped to the baseboards. Then I add a layer of newspaper to keep it from getting slippery. Use a scoring tool, then soak with your sponge, wait 20 mins before scraping off with a metal scraper.

I only use a wallpaper steamer. It was a small investment that has paid for itself. However, you can also rent or borrow one.

Score the paper in a cross hatch pattern. Spray down with hot water to soak it. Keep it wet while scraping off carefully with a flat bladed drywall tool. Then rinse well with a vinegar-water solution to remove any residual glue. ( A steamer was the best buy I ever made as had layers and layers of paint/wallpaper/paint/wallpaper, etc., etc. in my 100+ year old house.) But you shouldn't need a steamer for a border.

Score the paper. You can purchase this tool from your local hardware store or home improvement store. Then mix a combination of equal parts of fabric softener with water in a spray bottle. Spray generously on scored paper. Let it sit for a minute or two and then peel and scrape with a scraper. Good luck with your project!
