You could ask your friends at church or in your neighborhood to find a contractor that could come look and tell you. You might barter for his advise by mowing or something in return for his consulation, or wash his car weekly for a month or something. Bartering is becoming new again with neighbors helping neighbors. It strengthens a community and gives people a sense of belonging and good will. Johanne, I hope you can find someone to advise you. Also, if that does not work for you, I would look in the multimedia and ask for professionals in your area. In our community there is one larger city and several outlying smaller towns and we can advertise for free to find a reliable, highly recommended professional that is reasonable. There is a lot of negative feed back about multimedia, but there are some great and good uses too! Of course, there is always the yellow pages. It does take a builder to know if a wall is load bearing or not. Be sure of his character and knowledge before you follow his advice.

Also the videos as mentioned above will be great helps.
My best to you!
Hi Johanne, It's hard to explain, it's which way the trusses go. I'd call a contractor in to let you know, or your house could crash down. Aloha!
