How do I change this ledge?
Hello! I have a room length ledge in my downstairs family room. Bottom portion is beadboard and top is just wood that has been painted over. I was thinking of sanding the paint off of the top wood and maybe staing it....leave the beadboard? Just looking to see if anyone has any ideas. Thanks!!

I think that would be very pretty!
I think that sounds like a great idea. I can't see what color your bead board is, but a dark walnut stain would look beautiful against white bead board.
I agree that your idea is a good one and like the dark stain also,
That’s a lot of sanding and the edge detail will be a chore.
What I would do is wipe a darker color of paint, diluted, over the bead board and the edge detail of the top board, almost like a stain and remove part of it like a stain.
Then I’d sand and stain the top board, as you suggested.
What is this ledge used for? that will determine how to treat it.
I like the suggestions above also but if you like the look of rustic here is another idea. I had a similar problem with my mantle and it looked cheap so repainting wasn’t an option. What I did instead was got a sheet of plywood door skin and glued and pin nailed it in and added an edge board to bulk up what was only a 1” board , stained it with a dark stain and I loved the rustic look. Here is a pic , I wish I could find the before picture but in your case you could get a thin roll of trim for your edge Good luck
What do you mean by "farmhouse theme" ? also how high from the ceiling is this ledge?
I like the dark stain, that would look great. Don't do the dark diluted paint on the beadboard, it would look terrible. That sounds like it would just look dirty all of the time.
I'm afraid I don't understand the desire for 'rustic.' Why spend the time and money so that the end product looks as if it were long neglected?
