I know you can use it for plant insulation. It helps to retain heat. I would never have thought of using for cold walls. I would try it on a non-permanent basis, just in case you don't like it or feel a difference. It seems like a wonderful idea.
Vye: you might have better luck hanging insulated curtains across the wall. It's certainly less hassle, can be washed when dusty and can add a nice, decorative element. I was thinking something like this:
I don't think burlap on the walls would add much insulation value, but you could try a hanging canopy over your bed, which would add curtains around your bed and seal in some heat while you sleep.
I think curtains specifically for cold weather or blackout would work the best. Alternatively, you could do a plastic window insulation for the winter/cold weather.
The burlap has a coarse weave/texture, so it is probably not the best material of choice. Not to mention it has a faint odor to it. The burlap might help you make the room more acoustically softer, but as for insulation, you'd need something denser.
We are renovating our guest bathroom. We put up vinyl wallpaper along the tub/shower wall. I am not worried about the wallpaper itself getting wet because it is viny...

NOPE! Not at all. Too thin and is porous. No insulating value at all.
