Yarn, Driftwood, Scissors. Only a few tools needed for this fun and adorable craft. Follow along to learn how to create this lovely addition to your home. I did go a little extra with this rainbow wall hanging by adding some gold glitter star picks to the final look along with some gold, die-cut star ribbon as an embellishment. That will be entirely up to you on whether or not you want to add the extra flair and pizazz. It felt like the right touch to have for a St. Patrick's Day home decor piece.

1). The pastel colored yarn was found at a local Dollar Tree, $1 each for yarn is a great deal in my eyes. Saw the colorful possibility immediately and scooped some up. Maybe you are already a crafter and have yarn in stock - this is a great opportunity for you to participate in this project.

2). First things first, select the colors of your yarn. Whether you want a monochromatic look to the yarn wall hanging, a repeating pattern or something unique and funky. The choice is yours!

3). With your measuring tape, measure out about 60 inches of yarn - or whatever length you desire and cut the yarn. Repeat this process about 20 times for each color. You want a good bundle of yard to tie into a lark's head knot.

4). If you have a rod, stick or drift wood - lay that down on a flat surface. Use a lark's head knot ( fold yarn in half, wrap the folded end over the rod, draw the loose ends through the loop and pull tightly to secure). You will repeat this process for each color of yarn

5). Cute a piece of string/jute twine to tie on the opposite ends of the rod, tie a knot on each end. This will be the string used to hang up your wall hanging.

6). The gold star picks and gold star ribbon are completely optional. I had these embellishments laying around so thought it would be nice to add these metallic touches. Easily enough, I trimmed the gold star picks and slid the rod portion of the pick between the yarn and the rod of the wall hanging. This secured the gold pick in place nicely.

7). Lastly, I trimmed a couple strands of this lovely gold star ribbon to layer onto the wall hanging. I actually just draped the pieces of gold ribbon onto the wall hanging. I didn't glue it on or tie is tightly in the event I want to remove the ribbon down the road.

8). Hang up your wall hanging and admire!

A snapshot of all the materials to use for this project: yarn, rod/driftwood, jute twine, star picks, star ribbon, scissors, measuring tape.

With your measuring tape, measure out about 60 inches of yarn - or whatever length you desire and cut the yarn.

Pick yarn thickness and color of your preference.

Continue cutting strips of yarn at 60 inches in length, do this about 20 times for each color of yarn.

Prepare the start of a lark's head knot.

Lark's head knot in process.

Pull knot tightly onto the drift wood/rod or wooden dowel.

Repeat the knot process with all colors of yarn to be used for the wall hanging.

Progess!

More progress!

Should start to look like this!

I inserted these gold star picks between the driftwood/rod and the yarn. No glue needed to secure the picks, the tightness between the yarn and drift wood will hold it in place. Tie jute twine/string on each side of the rod - this string will be used to hang the wall hanging on the wall.

The star ribbon was draped onto the wall hanging - just added this as embellishment. Decided not to glue the (2) strips of gold star ribbon in the event I decide to remove them - for now the star ribbon is tucked behind the yarn safely.

Tada, final look of the wall hanging. I just love it!
