Upcycle Your Old Wooden Windows Into Beautiful New Art for Your Yard

When we moved into our new home we found some old windows in our basement crawl space. I gave a few of them to a friend who wanted them for a mini greenhouse project, but I had to keep 2 for myself. I knew exactly what I wanted them for - some decor for the corner in our backyard that I wanted to turn into a nice little seating area where I could enjoy a book and a cold drink on those summer days.

Start by making sure your window is clean and that your frame is in good shape. If you plan to paint the frame you may want to give it a little sanding, otherwise leave it alone.

All you need to paint your window is some acrylic paints!
Decide on your theme or design and get to painting!
Since we live near the beach I wanted to make sure the beach was in my yard with these windows. I also knew they were going into a special corner of my yard and they would hang on the fence on opposite corners so I wanted them to "match", but not exactly. We painted two different beach themes on our windows.

When your paint has completely dried, give it a good coat or two of a clear acrylic spray sealer and then let that dry.
I found this was an easy way to hang my windows. I added an eye hook to each corner and then used some leftover chain to hang it up. My window had small holes already in the frames, so I just screwed the eye hooks into those holes. If your eye hooks don't go in by hand you may need to drill in a small pilot hole. Just be sure not to hit the glass!
I hung my window from a cup hook screwed into my fence and it hangs nicely between the horizontal boards.
Here you can see both of our windows in my small little reading nook for Mom only ;) I'm still on the search for the perfect metal chairs for my spot.
