With a few buttons and ribbon you can upcycle a placemat into a fun wall hanging

This is a really fast project and all you need is a glue gun to put it together.

Gather your ribbon (or you can use yarn) and wood buttons.

Cut out a heart pattern to use to space the buttons. Attach each button to the placemat by using a SMALL dab of hot glue in the CENTER of each button making sure you will be able to get the ribbon around it for weaving.

The ribbon is very easy to wrap around a button. Simply take a piece of ribbon and weave it in and out underneath each button. Don’t use a lot of tension, weave the ribbons so they lay flat but not tight. I used 6 different kinds of ribbon for texture and color.

Next I placed a band of complimentary ribbons at the top and the bottom attaching them with lines of hot glue. I used extra wood buttons to decorate the bottom and used a chipboard "Imagine" to decorate under the heart.

I folded the fringe to the back over a dowel so the piece could hang. Last, I tied on a decorated string for a hanger.

I made another wall hanging using the same process with chunky yarn!
