Repurposed Yardstick Decor Project

Have you ever had an idea to repurpose something and just keep putting it off? This decor project is one of those ideas. I was able to score a bundle of yardsticks at auction and I knew I had to get busy then! This is so simple, but turned out to be one of my favorite DIYs to date.

You won’t believe how dang simple this was and if you are a vintage lover like I am, you will love this even more.

I started off with this thrifted wood frame. I always try to pick these frames up to have on hand for different projects. It sure came in handy for this project. I painted it using the color oatmeal by Art Minds. I used 150 grit sandpaper to distress just a little once paint was dry.

Then I measured and cut several different yardsticks. These just so happen to be vintage, but you could easily purchase some from the hardware store and paint them with that antique look. I laid them out in a random order, not to get like colors close together. I wanted a blended mix of colors through the frame.

I transferred the cut yardsticks to the back of the wood frame in the order I had laid out. I used 2 longer yardstick pieces and glued to the back with wood glue sticks to keep them from coming apart. I then went along the outside edge of the yardstick and the frame to hold in to place in the frame. I use the surebonder wood glue sticks for my glue gun and it works great for these projects.

The final touch of this cute decor project was the little wreath added to the front of the yardsticks. Just simple and nothing over the top. But that is me…simple.
