Rustic Floating Floral Wall Art

These large rustic wall pieces are made to look like the flowers are floating on the wall within a frame. It cost me under $12 to make the two of them. Here's how...
I bought two large pieces of MDF at Home DEpot 2'x2' each. I hung a hook in the middle of each board and painted them the same color as my bedroom wall. You could just put the screw into your wall if you don't mind patching holes in the wall when you want to switch up your decor.
I bought the wood as "damaged" or 70% off at Home Depot because that's the look I was going for. These were 1"x3"x8" pieces I had cut to size (see blog post for more details if interested in using these exact materials). If you have pallet wood that would work great. Mine pallet wood has been outside a while so I didn't want to worry it might be infested with bugs or mold. I stained the wood with minwax "classic" gray and a homemade vinegar stain (see my blog post). When that dried I dry brushed some white paint (as well as a bit of graige) to dull it down because my room is very muted.
I used corner braces to secure the frame and attached it to the MDF from behind with screws. I also attached a picture hanger on the back as well.
From the hooks in the middle of the piece I hung upcycled maple syrup jars to hold flowers. You can switch out the florals based on the season or whatever you like. If you look closely I apparently had a regular sized maple syrup jar and the value size. I'm working on using up another value size.
On my blog post I show you the items I purchased at Home Depot and how much each thing cost. Please let me know if something was not clear. I hope you're PINspired :)
