Scoring 3 Christmas Signs in One With This Multi-Directional Design!

I've always loved the look of a multi-directional sign. Whether it's on a ski hill or while vacationing, I've always admired how neat a bunch of grouped signs all in one spot look. Especially if you're a sign-aholic type... heh.

So I decided to finally try out the concept with my own twist.

Gathering up 3 fence planks of wood, along with 3 winter-themed word stencils (so they could last beyond Dec 25th!), this was the very fun and festive result!

Now this would prove to be one very fun street corner...
1. 3 reclaimed wood fence planks were cut down to the same length.

2. Each plank was trimmed out with a super simple arrow tip. (full cutting details in original blog post link below)

3. Lightly sand the boards.
4. Decide which sayings will go on which board, then choose background tones to the messages.

For example, I used red paint for the Sleigh Rides sign, blue for Ski Lodge, and wood tone for Hot Cocoa.

Tip: coat out the boards in a slightly sloppy way so they aren't painted perfectly. This gives the boards an immediate aged appearance a sander can't accomplish quite the same way after the fact.
5. Using a very dry-to-the-touch paint loaded stencil brush, tap inside each letter until fully covered.

I used a combination of white and black for the lettering. The script lettering was done in white, then the bold in black.

Tip: try an uneven approach if you wish for the letters to look more naturally distressed.
How to 2-tone letters:

Here's a fun technique to try, if you wish to ramp up your lettering.

1. Paint black first, then allow to dry.

2. Position the stencil back on top, positioning to show a bit of the sign background along the upper right.

3. Go over the word again in white, while fading out the intensity towards the bottom left.
The effect gives the lettering a shadow and a cool looking fade!

More pictures are in the original blog post link below to better explain.

6. After the planks were painted, fun snowflakes were added to enhance that winter wonderland feel.

And here's the fun, festive result! Talk about a hit of Christmas spirit all at once, huh?

7. A support board was attached to the wall, then each sign plank attached to that.

While the signs are super cute on their own as is, they could also look really cool with mug hooks added for a hot cocoa station, or perhaps to hang keys or Christmas stockings!
