I love shopping for decor for my home, especially wall art. I'm always obsessed with the abstract painting and textured wall art. The thing is, I will find something that totally catches my eye, it will be absolutely beautiful. I start to envision it in my home, the room it will go, etc. Then after all this daydreaming, I check the price, I put it back icon . Seriously its so expensive. So, I am now back to the drawing board because I am not going to buy the piece. I snap a picture for inspiration, then leave. This is where my creative muscle kicks in, and I think of ways I can recreate it for a much lesser cost.

Now I will say this project was free 99 for me because I had all the materials from a previous project. But for you, it will still be cheaper than buying it. Plus, you will have fun and will be proud that you created something for your home. I don't know about y'all, but I love when someone comes into my home and ask where I got something and I say "I made it". The look on their face is priceless.

Materials

Canvas 9x12

Joint Compound

Square Notch Ceramic Floor Trowel

Scraper

Paint (optional)

Materials used

You are going to start by spreading the joint compound on the canvas. Make sure it is enough on your canvas to cover it. It should be a little thick.

Joint Compound

If you are satisfied with this look leave it. I know I was, but I decided I to do some circles using the notch trowel because the piece I was eyeing had them.

The design

Do not worry about if you mess up. Joint compound takes 24hrs to dry, so you can always smooth it out and try again.

This is the final look when it's all dry. It looks so much better in person. I will say I am going to go back and add some color, but other than that I am satisfied.
