The Simplest Art Project

When searching for the perfect art work for my living room, I struggled. I knew I wanted something super simple. No matter how hard I looked, I just couldn’t seem to find one that I loved and that wasn’t hundred of dollars.

So, naturally, I decided to use my DIY skills and make one on my own.

Follow along with me and I will show you how I created this super simple, yet gorgeous art piece.

Materials needed:

1) 1/4'“ MDF (i used this as the backer)

2) white paint

3) sharpie paint pen

4) stain (i used general finishes Flint collar)

5 2x4 scraps for the boarder

cut MDF to size, I cut mine at 22” x 24”

I applied 3 coats of white paint. It would also be neat to use black paint and a white sharpie.

I ripped down 1” strips out of scrap 2X4 on my table saw. These will make up the frame.

Groove out the pieces on your table saw. Set your table saw blade to a depth of about 1/4’. Make multiple passes on each piece until you have a 1/4'“ wide groove. This groove is where you will slide your MDF backer into.

Cut pieces to length. Cut two at 21 1/4” and 2 at 25 1/4”.

Stain in the color of your choice and let dry. For the more advanced DIYer, you can mitre the corners for a more professional look if you would like.

with your sharpie paint pen, draw on your design. I made two of them. I found it easier to do the second one because I looked at the first one while drawing it. So if mine is the design you like, screen shot a picture of it on your phone and use it as a reference while drawing on your MDF backer.

attach the frame. Slide the MDF into the grooves of the frame pieces and secure with air nails.

Thank you so much for following along with me. I love the simplicity this artwork brings to the space. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.

I love ur kitchen. Omg it reminds me of my house in Ca that we remodeled it n after a year we sold it. But our cabinets were dark brown n countertops were same as u. Beautiful memories that made me burst into tears. I love the simple art.

Your art piece is beautiful in its simplicity, sometimes less really is more as you have so wonderfully shown here. Thanks for sharing and for offering to let anyone exactly copy your design.
