Turn Your Kids Favorite Hot Wheels Into a Cool Clock!

Spring cleaning to me is going through all my kids toys and getting rid of the ones that aren't being played with anymore.

When my boys were little they LOVED playing with hot wheels and they especially loved their corvette cars when their Grandpa bought a corvette. I wanted all the cars gone and they wanted to save the corvettes so we compromised - with a clock!

How many of you parents have a pile similar to this, but a whole lot bigger?!

I was having so much fun putting this together that I completely forgot to take pictures during it, but I think it's still pretty easy to figure out this DIY.

You'll need:
clock mechanism
wood clock board with the hole in middle cut out (or whatever you want to use to hold the clock and cars)
12 toy cars (I used all corvettes, but you can use any cars you want)
E6000 glue
I started by painting my board and letting it dry completely. Then I dry fit the clock into the board so that I knew where to place my cars so that the clock hands would not hit the cars once they were glued on. If you wish you can attach the clock mechanism at this point too.
Glue on your cars into place. I used E6000 glue. Each car was a bit different in it's shape and where the car would rest on the wood, however most of their wheels were resting on the wood so I glued down the wheels and whatever else hit the wood.

Let your cars glue on a flat surface over night to make sure that each car has adhered well and in place on your clock board.
I also ordered a corvette decal off of ebay so that it would have more of a corvette feel to it. If you haven't already, attach your clock mechanism to your board.
Then all you need to do is add a battery to your clock and hang it up. This is definitely my favorite way to keep hot wheels in the house ;)

This project is a perfect way to transition a boy's room decor when he has outgrown playing with the cars, but is still not old enough yet to part with all of them.

He can even take the clock with him when he leaves home. 😉

Yes! Even for a grown up boy who loves cars 😉
