A Bright Farmhouse Mudroom

Our small mudroom in the back of our Victorian style farmhouse needed an update. With school starting, the stuff my boys were dragging home seemed to multiply- we definitely needed more hooks (which always seem to be my saving grace for organization!) Plus, our dogs had chewed away at a lot of the molding in the room, which needed repair. Alas, I was forced to redecorate the room ;-)
Here's the before. Definitely not bad. We were just very limited on storage, and always seemed to have book bags on the floor. Plus, I was a little tired of the stripes.
The after. Fabric wall treatment, DIY board and batten, and heavy duty hooks, not to mention a much lighter and brighter color scheme, are the stars of the room now.
The fabric wall treatment was so much easier, and cheaper, than wallpaper! Here's a link to the tutorial.
The hooks are super heavy duty, and have literally doubled the amount of storage space we have in here now. Did I mention how much I love hooks for organization? They are life savers for us!
The board and batten DIY was my first time tackling a "construction" project entirely on my own, and I love the finished result. It was such an easy project for the impact that it has!
I like how the black fixture and the doormat kind of help tone down the sweetness of the walls and the aqua doors a bit.
One must-have was a boot tray. I gave ours a coastal farmhouse touch with the simplest DIY ever- you can find the details here.

Really nice job. I love the concept of a mudroom. We in California rarely see one but I always loved the idea.

Thanks Pat! It's amazing how such a small space can be so incredibly functional!
