I have been on the hunt for a good Kilim Fabric for a while now to reupholster my bench. If I did like any fabric the prices were too high, or it was out of stock or it was too small to cover my bench.
If I did end up liking any, the fabric was off, it looked old or it wasn’t vibrant enough and I was just fed up at this point.
This wasn’t going to work out so I needed a Plan B.
I did a quick little search and found this stunning Kilim Stencil.
Literally it was spot on to what I had in mind.
Look at this beauty by StencilGirl Products.
I mean would you just look at that, could it get more accurate with the Kilim Pattern. The stencils are super adorable and affordable plus the way they play with these stencils is so unique, with textures, colors and patterns that I needed it at once. And they were absolutely wonderful to send me this gorgeous stencil to play around with. This is how the bench looked Before. Not too shabby looking but way too plain for my taste.
You know I need my color and patterns and I desperately wanted a furniture piece which had a Kilim design on it.
I did paint a Nightstand which you can see here called the Southwestern Table Makeover but now I wanted a bench to have the same vibe.
So I first measured out how I wanted the stencil to look like. I ended up with one full main Kilim pattern in the middle and half of the pattern on each side. And that is how I started painting from the middle and when that was all complete I went and painted the sides. You can hold it in place by using masking tape but since I’ve been stenciling for so long I didn’t use it but kept it firmly in place with my free hand. You lightly dab the stencil brush in the paint color, brush off the excess and with a gentle up and down motion apply it on to the stencil.
I wanted this piece to be bright, colorful and loud as established already. That is how 99% of my furniture ends up so no surprises here but I really wanted this one to be multicolored because that is what Kilim is all about.Beautiful colors!
I’m not going to lie and say it was easy, it did take me a couple of hours with breaks in between to complete the entire bench. But I really wanted this bench to turn out the way I had it planned in my head so I took my time on it.And that was it. All Done!
What do you guys think?

Anam, how kind of the company to give you the stencil! I hope you make and share with us many more projects! I'm wondering a about the two paintings sitting on the bench in the last picture. I'm imagining you took the left over paint from stenciling and created these two?

I like frugality! And the beautiful eye for color you have to choose those color combinations! Let's add your patience to get the project done the way you imagined it.

Do you think this could be done with sharpies instead of paint? I mean use the stencil just use sharpies instead of paint. Also I absolutely love this! The colors are awesome and I love your rug too!
