This was a thrift store piano bench in need of a serious update. A little paint and a pretty French graphic did the trick.

Laurie Burns Fox on Feb 10, 2015First, I love the re-do of the piano bench...I've done some looking on Hometalk and Pinterest and like this one the best. I recently found a piano bench in the trash and would like to paint it but I've never done a project like this and so far I'm running into problems. First, I thought I should clean it but as soon as the water hit the inside of the storage area, it immediately turned to red water that temporarily stained my hands and everything it touched. It was a little wobbly and all the corner needed to be re-glued so I've taken it apart, cleaned all the old glue off and lightly sanded every piece. Again, the red showed in the form of dust. Wiped down all the pieces - red still prominent. My question - can I just prime everything, re-glue it and and then paint it without worrying about the red coming through? Should I strip the current finish before I paint? Should I sand down to the wood?
