Trash to Treasure: Wooden Bench Makeover

After snatching up this trashed bench from the curb, my initial plan was to remove the fabric on the seat and give the whole thing a coat of white paint – fairly simple, right?
Well, after I started scraping away at it for a while, I got a little carried away. I removed some of the decorative wood embellishments, and replaced the thin vertical boards with two new horizontal boards.
It took quite a bit scraping and sanding to remove all the glue residue and get everything smooth. But, after that was done, a few coats of stain and some cream paint made a huge difference. To get the right stain color I layered white/pickling stain with a thin coat of Jacobean.
This made-over bench now proudly sits in my entryway. It's the perfect perch to sit and take off your shoes.
