Can't Get Your Family to Hang up Their Coats?

I highly doubt that I'm the only one constantly picking up after the rest of the family (husband included). You see, its just so much easier to walk PAST the entry closet to drape your coat over a dining chair and to kick off your shoes wherever they land. Their excuse? "I'll do it later." Well, this Mama had enough. Check out what I came up with to try to eliminate this problem.
I enlisted the help of my eager daughter and my not-so-eager husband and we got started. First thing was to empty the closet and remove the traditional wire shelving thing with the built-in rod. Next, we measured to find out the cuts needed on the boards and Ryan did the cuts on the chop saw. The boards were screwed into a stud and then the hooks screwed to the board. I would hold/hang a coat or a shoe to measure where to screw in the boards. This was also the way I figured out where to put the hooks (holding up a shoe or coat to see what space it took up).
There's 8 small double hooks at the very top that can hold 16 ball caps. There's 8 large double hooks to hold 16 jackets, if you put one coat per hook. I used 8 large double hooks for the men's footwear as they needed one hook per shoe due to the size of the shoes. And, there are 12 small double hooks to hold 12 pairs of 'normal sized' shoes. LOL. Boots still just set on the floor of the closet for now. I will get a boot tray later.
For now, its strictly for functionality. I didn't bother filling screw holes or painting. The large hooks are gold and the small hooks are silver but for now, that is just fine. Here's hoping the fam will hang up their own stuff now!
