Here's a quickie project using ReStore knobs and a decorative sign from a thrift store.

Since Hometalk has hidden the explanatory text, here's a summary:

--find a cheap sign at a thrift store, pick up some $1 knobs and hooks at the ReStore
--decide on placement
--personalize with self-adhesive lettering
--pack up and mail to niece who just bought her first home, and needed a drop zone by the front door

Finished project, for dog leash and keys

Niece shared a pic of her condo entry

My namesake niece bought a condo, and in celebration shared this photo. I wanted to send a housewarming gift, so my first thought was: needs a place to hang her keys as she walks in the door. Plus she adopted a puppy.

Stumbled across at a thrift

Found this cute sign, brand new, at a thrift store. Perfect: she looooves to bake. And she loves the color pink. Inspiration struck when I noticed pink knobs in the $1 bins at the ReStore.

Cost me more to ship it!

Not a bad deal. (Original vendor name obscured due to an unfortunate SCOTUS case involving corporations...)

Laying out the lettering

Transferring press-on letters to foil backing. (I'd like to have used the backing sheet that came with my vinyl lettering, but it went missing. This worked okay.)

Sub-optimal technique

The process: with an X-Acto knife, remove the lettering from package, place into final position, then lay a strip of painter tape on top. Burnish lightly, peel off.
The lettering should transfer to the tape, which can then be positioned on the item to be lettered.
Burnish more heavily, transferring the letters.
Carefully peel the painter tape off.

She loooooves pink, and baking

She likes it, and immediately hung it up and added the dog leashes.
