How to Make "Grippy" Doorknob Coat Hooks

We are working on styling and organizing our entryway, which led to this coat rack project using old door knobs coated with Plasti Dip. The Plasti Dip gives the knobs a "grippy" texture which prevents coats from sliding off.
Start by purchasing a few old doorknobs - Habitat Restore is my favorite place to find inexpensive used hardware.
Brush on the Plasti Dip and let it dry for about four hours. Do this outside, it's a stinky product!
Remove the spindles from the knobs by carefully wiggling them back and forth with a pair of vise grips.
One side of the knob will have screw holes, the other won't. To make that side work, add holes using a drill (or drill press, in our case).
Lay out the knobs on a board (we used a piece of salvaged wood from another project) and screw them on. Then screw the board to the wall. Use drywall anchors if you are going to be hanging heavy bags or coats.
Thanks for checking out my post, there are more photos and details on what to look for when selecting knobs over on my blog. I hope you stop by and say "hello!"

In the pictures the knobs are shiny brass, then white, then oil rubbed bronze. When do you use the Plasti Dip and what kind of paint?
