Using a basic piece of furniture from IKEA, you won't believe how easy it is to create a space for organizing all that clutter that comes in and out of your home!
Watch our video tutorial for great ideas on customizing your console and organizing your stuff. We all have stuff and the battle to contain it rages on.
To our great dismay, a week's worth of footage we had filmed was corrupted and we lost it all. Luckily, we were able to use some of our GoPro footage. This is where we started. We captured space from a closet and formed a nook in our entry. We then applied shiplap to the wall.
We used an IKEA Kallax unit to create an entry console with storage capabilites. By custom making a base for it to sit on, we were able to rise it to the height we wanted. This was so simple to do.
Now that our Kallax unit was in place and on its new base, we built the molding to go around the base. We found it was easier to assemble, paint, and then tack in place. Attach to the legs of your base. We chose to caulk the gaps to make it look like a solid piece.
Time to assemble drawers! We chose to use 8 of the IKEA drawers and 4 baskets to ensure we had enough storage space for our needs. But, this is customizable, so you may choose more or less.
Alright, now we get to gather the things we want to organize in our console. For us, we needed places for winter and summer gear, mail, pet items, magazines, etc. Perhaps my favorite idea was using a basket to organize those items you need to return to stores, friends, etc. (basically things that don't belong in your home, but ended up there).
It feels great when everything finally has a place. You may even find, as we did, that you end up with a couple of empty drawers. That's okay too. Room to grow, right?
Finally everything is in its place and the clutter is gone! We even added a catch-all tray up top for those random items like keys, etc. We hope you enjoyed this project!

How did you get it priced so cheaply? When I looked up the materials (it connected to Amazon) and priced them out, the total cost (not counting your base) was $488.
