You can protect your floor with a decorative painted floorcloth like this stenciled damask floorcloth. It's easy enough to do in a day!

Left over latex wall paint for base-coat
I have used the pre-primed canvas floorcloths in the past to help protect floors. Sometimes I only apply a coat of latex wall paint and sometimes I stencil them. Using leftover latex wall paint to base-coat floorcloths is a great way to use of that last little bit of paint left over in the can.

Plain base-coat floorcloth
For this one, I initially only painted a base-coat of wall paint on my floorcloth but decided I wanted to take it to the next step and stencil it to make it vibrant!

Center stencil on floorcloth and tape
After searching through stencil designs, I found this amazing damask stencil to use on the floorcloth! After marking the centers on each side of the floorcloth, tape the stencil to the floorcloth to secure it.

Using a stencil brush and acrylic paint, start stenciling using a pouncing motion.

Using a stencil brush and acrylic paint, star
Using a dry brush and a pouncing motion results in nice crisp edges in the stenciling! Here is a close-up of the stenciling to show how crisp stenciling can be when you use the right technique.

Two coats of white on dark is vibrant!
A single coat of white on such a dark blue, while pretty, wasn't as vibrant as I wanted so I did a second coat of white. The picture above shows how much brighter the white is by adding a second coat.

Finished stenciled damask floorcloth
After re-positioning and more stenciling, I ended up with this amazing decorative floor covering!
