How you display a rug makes all the difference in the look of the room. The nap can look dark one way and light the other way. Which is the look you are going for? I loved the style of this rug and the contemporary design was a fabulous contrast to my more traditional furnishings. I also have a small living/dining room combination. I wanted something to define the living area without cutting the room in half, so this rug was perfect.
I love the pattern in this rug. It is interesting without taking over the room. Placed in the room this way, it shows the pattern as light beige. Since my furniture is all neutral, I love that the rug looks neutral layed this way also.
I turned it around the other way to see if the open design pattern would open up the niche area of the room. It did do that, but the nap made the rug look like a dark taupe instead of a light beige.
The light beige definitely suits the room better and allows the rug to flow into the adjoining dining area without cutting off the space.
You can see that the nap on the pattern is raised about 1/2 inch, so how the light hits it makes a big difference in how the color shows up.
Turned this way the colors look soft beige.
And with it turned this way it just defines the living room area without cutting the room in half. That is exactly what I was going for. If you have a room with a patterned nap, take a look at it turned both ways in the room to make sure it is showing the color and pattern that you are looking for. Every rug has a light side and a dark side, so be sure to pick the one you want.
