We all need a doorstop sometimes but they can be unsightly. Make your own to match your decor and enjoy having it around for when it is needed. You only need basic sewing skills and a few materials.

If you enjoy sewing then I suggest that you also take a look at my tutorial https://christines-crafts.com/easy-peasy-cushion-covers/ to make simple but elegant cushion covers to match your decor.

You will need:

Fabric of your choice (o.5 yard or 0.5m is plenty). I used a thick hard, wearing fabric

Filling (dried beans, pulses, rice or sand work well)

Matching thread

Sewing machine (optional)

Scissors and ruler or rotary cutter and mat

From the fabric cut the following pieces:1 off 60cm x 20cm (24″ x 8″) for sides

2 off 15cm x 15cm (6″ x 6″) for top and bottom

1 off 15cm x 8cm (6″ x 3″) for handle

If you want a larger or smaller doorstop just make the pieces larger or smaller. These were just right for me!

Fold the larger piece in half to form a tube and sew it (right sides together).

Make the handle by sewing the handle in half, turning it out and pressing it flat with the seam in the middle.

Place the handle on top of one of the squares of fabric and sew along either end.

Sew the two squares onto either end of the tube (right sides together) leaving one side open to turn the doorstop out and fill it.

Turn the doorstop the right way out.

Fill the doorstop with the beans, pulses or sand. I placed mine in a plastic bag inside the doorstop to avoid any problems.

Sew up the open edge.

You have finished! You have a lovely doorstop that is easy to move around and matches your decor perfectly. Well done!
