Makeover Your Old Tile With PAINT + STENCIL!

Tearing and replacing the tile in your bathroom can be expensive, difficult, and time consuming! Not to mention the tools required to cut tile are pretty pricey too! While I wouldn't recommend a tile project for a beginner DIYer, this project is one you can do no matter your skill level! If you can read and follow directions, you can transform your dated bathroom tile with a little bit of PAINT!

I teamed up with a Hometalker in my community who had wanted to transform her bathroom for a while but needed a bit of help and guidance. With my help, we created a space she loved!

Here's a photo of the old blue tile BEFORE! The first thing we did was put down 2 coats of Rust-Oleum Chalked Charcoal Ultra Matte Interior Paint.
After the base coat of paint was dry, it was time to start stenciling! We poured a bit of Rust-Oleum Chalked Ultra Matte Interior Paint in Linen White into a Handy Pail.
We used painters tape to secure our stencil.
We used a paint dabber to fill in the stencil! We didn't try to get full coverage since we wanted a bit of a distressed look.
Continue with the stencil until you fill all the spaces!
For the edges, you can gently fold your stencil and dab the paint in around the edges. Just have patience and go slow!
Once you are done, seal with a couple coats of Polyurathane and you're good to go!

I asked about this at our local hardware store I was told that the stenciling would ware off over a short short period of time even after sealing it .

is that what you have found ? How long ago has your floor been stenciled ?

    thanks 🙏

Will this work on vinyl tile?

Where can I find this stencil? I’ve read a few of the comments already and seen where a few people were upset because of wear and tear on the floor basically. Anything painted and has high traffic is more than likely going to rub off I would think. Depending on the paint and the top coat of sealer put over it. Almost like nails being painted. Just saying . Thanks

I’d consider in lightly used bathroom powder room. But before I did anything I’d delaminate/deglaze existing surface to allow full adhesion/cure of paint. Slapping a wet product on a waterproof surface will in time, not make it as your original surface is moisture proof, this it’s going to do what it’s intended to do…repel moisture

  • I have gotten chalk paint on my floors while crafting and it's a bear taking it off! That would be my go to for floors!
