I had a stockpile of old worn seen their day cotton throw rugs , was going to toss them and then I thought I would cover them in some pretty heavy material and give them a pretty new life!
I first trimmed all the frayed edges, I cut the material about 4 inches extra on the sides and about 10 inches bigger on the 2 ends reason for this is on the ends I want to knots some fringe.
I slowly sewed the material on, you can also use material adhesive if you don't want to sew but be sure the material is well bonded onto the old rug so it will wash well. I used some heavy material but can be machine washed
stitched all the way around but remember the ends to leave a fringe for knotting
This is the finished carpet I just think it is great to be able to repurpose old carpets into pretty ones that you can make to match your home. Second hand stores sometimes have bolts of material that stores donate that is how I got this striped material . I also went one step farther and added some stenciling to add some character.
don't mind my kitten he realllyyy likes fringe!
This may not be for everyone but when you have children and pets its a great way to reuse and decorate . If you can see I also sewed through the middle so it would all stay in tack for washing. Will you give this a try? love to see yours
