You can put up anything. Plywood, pallet wood. wood planks, corrugated panels, etc. Some just paint a light color for brightness.

Maybe consider the metal panels which are now available.
Just paint it a dark color.
I would add some beams, metal to begin with
Hi Lisa, you can just put some board up above the roof beams and paint it all one solid color, like a gray or what ever you like
I just saw a garage makeover where they scrapped the popcorn from the ceiling without using water and such and then added some thin stripes of trim to make a coffered look and then painted it. It looked really good.
What do you have there now? Roof rafters and Rafter Ties?
If so, I’d go Functional High Tech and put up Radiant Barrier insulation wrap.
Correct, it’s not as cheap as paint, but it helps with temperature extremes and is easy to install.
