I wouldn’t think so or advise it as wood expands and contract. We left a quarter inch along each wall and then used quarter round to finish it. Quarter round is not expensive and will give your room a more finished look. We stained a piece of scrap quarter round and painted another scrap the same color as our baseboard to see which we liked better. We stained ours the same color as our flooring. I hope this helps.
I think you are asking, do you have to remove the baseboards. You should because not only will the new flooring come up higher on the baseboards, but the new flooring needs space to breathe. The width of the baseboard is almost as much as the boards need. Also, by taking up the baseboards, you get a chance to clean and paint them to look new again. If you don’t take up the baseboards, that tiny crevice that will lie between the floorboards and the baseboards will fill with dirt and tiny bits of trash, and will be visible from across the room. A little dramatic, but do this the best way. 😇
