Grout is years old and dingy. Trying to avoid having to scrape out old grout and put in new. Four large rooms! Kitchen and bath are worse than living areas.

The Best Way to Clean Grout-EVER!!!
if you want to change the color of your grout, I believe they sell something at the big box stores that will change grout colors. If you just want to clean it well try diluted bleach applied with an old toothbrush to work it in. Don't forget to rinse well
To clean dark colored grout lines on tile floors: ***** Mix baking soda and white vinegar in a cup to a paste like consistency. Use a small brush to apply the mixture to the grout lines. Allow the mixture to remain on the grout lines for a little while. Use a small scrub brush or an old toothbrush to scrub the grout lines. Clean the floor with water to remove the baking soda and vinegar solution. ***** To clean white or light colored grout lines on tile floors: ***** Sprinkle dry oxygen bleach on the grout lines. Spray the bleach with water in a spray bottle to wet it down. Allow the oxygen bleach to remain on the grout lines for a few minutes. Scrub the grout lines with a small scrub brush or old toothbrush. Clean the floor with water to remove the oxygen bleach.
To clean my grout lines I used hydrogen peroxide and a toothbrush. Just squirt some on and scrub away. Wipe it up with a damp towel. Works perfectly.
To change your grout lines you can buy a "paint" of sorts to change the color of the grout. Good luck!
I was able to restore my black grout back to the original cream with resolve spray carpet cleaner. Spray on, leave for 10 minutes, use a toothbrush or grout brush to wipe away the grime, rinse and dry (you have to dry it off, it's super slippery if you don't). It was insanely easy and I couldn't believe how new they looked.
If you want to change the actual color, the big box stores (and Amazon) sell grout paint in lots of colors (better selection online of course). It's easy to use as well. Just get a small artists brush and an old toothbrush. Have fun!
Did you find something to lighten your grout? I picked light gray and want mine white, and it's too much to paint it, any other options???
Painting would be the only way.
A grout removal tool and take it out and start over. That is a job you don't want though. Call a tile guy. They have tools and knowledge to fix your problem or you can live with what you picked. Or you can put new tile over it and start over.
you can clean grout with bleach but I don't believe it will lighten the grout color all together.
I had my grout professionally cleaned before I moved in but found there were a few stains that were impossible to remove. Using a thin artist's brush, I painted cheap acrylic craft paint on the stains and it looks amazing. I wiped up any wobbly-handed errors with a damp sponge. It's been walked on many times a day for two years now and still looks clean and new. Depending on your grout, you may have to mix two paints colors but at approximately $2 per bottle, it's a cheap solution!
Product called Grout Renew...great stuff. I changed my grout color on my bathroom floor and it holds up great...comes in many colors...white too. They sell it at home improvement stores....google it....excellent reviews.
Buy a roller bottle at Home Depot and fill it with bleach and roll it on. A few hours later your grout will be white.
Clean it really well. If it is still stained, let it dry completely. Then buy a "grout pen" from Amazon. I have used a white pen with very good results.
Seems like it would easier to paint the grout the color you want and then seal it to help keep it that color.
