As long as the Lineoleum is level and not cracked, totally cleaned ....Yes
You likely could use peel and stick right on top as long as the vinyl is very very clean. However, a better option that is even easier to install and nearly as cheap is Allure Grip Strip Resilient Vinyl Flooring. These pieces stick to each other instead of the floor. They’re beautiful, durable, and easy to install. They come in many wood looks or tile looks. Sold at Home Depot, search their site to see. Good luck! (Attached a photo of my house with this flooring. My husband and I did the entire downstairs in a weekend.)
The manufacturer nearly always weighs in on this in their instructions. You should follow their instructions 100% over what anyone here tells you. We won't honor your warranty and neither will they if you violate their instructions.
I have removed vinyl floors where this was done. Every, and I mean EVERY crack, chip, piece of sawdust, or embossed design on the old flooring will telegraph through the new floor. Not the fault of the tile.
Doesn't take that much work to remove the old vinyl tile in order to give you the best chance of having a quality job when you are finished.
As for the new tile, I know of no bad brands out there, only bad installations. More money tends to be better tile that will last longer.
I agree with Lori, I used this Allure product over my old Ceramic tile floor in my kitchen, it’s fabulous. The one I used clicks together and floats on the floor, no gluing required! We used thin foam underlayment to minimize any “clacking” against the tile. No more cold floors. I’ve even dropped dishes on it and they didn’t break.
this sounds interesting. . is it durable enough to withstand some very energetic play between a 55 lb standard poodle, a cat (with claws intact) and a chihuahua running and sliding around corners?
it shouldn’t its only about a 1/8” thick. You can get samples from Home Depot and check them for clearances. We used quarter round to cover where it met the wall and cabinets. Hope this helps. You don’t want to remove the old stuff as long as it’s attached good. That could be a can of worms
Allure can go over any old flat surface, as long as it’s not loose or has holes. It floats, so gluing is required.
just sweep well to get rid of loose dirt, and I would recommend putting foam underlayment down to minimize any clacking between the two materialS. They use this under Pergo type flooring.
