I've installed vinyl flooring, Ceramic tile and all kinds of wood flooring over old vinyl flooring with great success. I used a vapor barrier called "Aqua-Ban".

first You put the barrier down with a thin coat of vinyl adhesive and the go over it with what ever flooring you like. The Aqua-Ban eliminates the old vinyl from transferring any mild defects and joint lines to the new vinyl.

THANKS THOMAS. ONE OTHER QUESTION WHILE I HAVE YOU HERE. I WAS THINKING ABOUT GETTING THE 12"SQUARE THICK TILES AND PUTTING THEM DOWN. WOULD I DO IT THE SAME WAY. I AM A VERY CREATIVE PERSON. i WAS GOING TO GO TO HABITAT FOR HUMANITY AND PICKING UP EVERY COLOR THEY HAVE. I AM NOT MOVING THE FRIDGE OR STOVE, I WILL WORK AROUND IT MAYBE WITH SMALLER TILES.
