Can you put hardwood over concrete?

have no wood subfloors just concrete.

    Yes, you can , the concrete really gives the concrete nails something to grab onto. I have 3/4"hand scraped hardwood through most of my house . One room is on a slab, the rest is over crawl space and basement. Slab room is only one with no creaky noises . 🍀

    You don't have to nail it down . You can get tongue and groove or glue it down . There are other options .

    With concrete being a porous material, I suggest a vapor barrier between the two.

    Check out old ways of putting down a primer on the concrete, use hot tar to adhere screeds,( pieces of 2x4 laid alternately to allow for weather changes); then nail the flooring crossways to the screeds. Nail gun is a must.
