How can I replace my carpet Flooring on a budget?

Laminate flooring or vinyl

I used a sheet vinyl that looked and felt like hardwood. Easy to clean (3 dogs and teenaged boy-child). Will use it in again in new home. BTW I painted ALL of my paneled walls and added mouldings. Did not look like the same place!

I recently bought a mobile home from a heavy smoker. I, too, had to pull out all the carpet. I had some dark brown paint and painted all the floors(which I never would have tried but it was all I had) and it looks so rich and beautiful, I am in no hurry to do anything else. Not only did I paint the bare wood, I painted over the kitchen linoleum. It looks so much better than the lime green it used to be.

Vinyl flooring would probably be the most inexpensive option next to painting them. Lowe's or Home Depot will come measure your room and install the vinyl flooring for you. There are some really nice looking vinyl flooring nowadays - some look like hardwoods or real tile floors. They're easy to maintain and clean as well.

The do have vinyl flooring that lays down like the laminate. So it would be easy to cut in odd places

We purchased an older 80's mobile home last year and I discussed this same thing with the contractor who did some work for us. He said to do it right the first time, put down 1/4 inch masonite, then lay the flooring over it. If laminate is laid over a flooring with flaws eventually the flaws will show through. Vinyl is inexpensive, but it tears especially when appliances are moved on it. New vinyl was put in this mobile before we bought it and it was torn when they put in old appliances, then tore again when the old appliances were taken out, and who knows if it tore yet again when the new appliances were put in place. I would go with the best you can afford, regardless if you choose vinyl, laminate or tile.
