Hello Lyn! What size is your room? Depending on the size you might have several options. Peel and stick tiles, carpet remnants, stained and then poly plywood, floating planks, painted plywood, paper bag floors, and a few more!
Peel & stick vinyl tiles start at about 90¢ a square foot for the ones that will last 10 years.
One can combine different colors & textures for patterns & borders.
One can easily cut them with an utility knife.
The only thing they aren’t good at, and neither are paper bag floors, is they will telescope whatever they’re sitting on top of- cracks, crumbs, etc.
So one just has to use a floor leveling compound if it’s not smooth & vacuum it as you go.
Luxury vinyl is easily installed and can be purchased very reasonably. If you have a concrete subfloor, tile is another option. Shop around and consider places like Lumber Liquidators. I bought some great DIY plank there. I've also purchased peel and stick tiles from Walmart and Amazon online. You can often get samples of tiles you want to try. I've had good experiences with the return policies of both. Good luck, shop around and pick something that you can install yourself, if that's what you want to do.

Hi ! You don't say what kind of floor you have now ... I bought super inexpensive peel & stick textured wood look vinyl planks flooring . I did my laundry room , entryway and kitchen , 1/2 bath and master bathroom all for about $225 !!!!! And I love it , it looks GREAT !!! Nobody believes it's peel & stick !

What is under your current floors? Concrete perhaps? You could stain it for an industrial look.

Painted concrete if the subfloor is concrete.
If you can find a remnant that fits, they are usually around that price range. If you DIY tile, it isn't very expensive.
