How can I refinish my ugly kitchen floor tile without tearing it out?
I’d like to maybe foe finish it to look like marble or wood. It has to be hard enough to handle a dog.

No painted surface will hold up.
Not knowing if you have stone, ceramic, vinyl or wood tile, I will send you several videos to go through. You will find something that's just what you need!

If you protect it with polyurethane, it will stand up to a dog. I would use at least 2 coats.
Another option would be to put down peel and stick tile. It would be easier to do instead of painting.
Faux finishing, no matter how well you seal, may not hold up well if you have a dog. If you are willing to chance it, go for it. If you have an itsy bitsy tiny little dog it will last longer. If you have a jumbo dog like a Saint Bernard, not so much.
