How can I remove carpet glued to floor with mastik?
The floor in our kitchen is covered with an ugly stained indoor/outdoor carpet. It appears to be glued to the floor with a black substance that looks like mastik. There are holes in the carpet and huge stains. It makes our kitchen look dirty and drives us nuts. How can we get this off the floor so that we can put down a wood plank or other surface.

How can I remove carpet & glue (easily) from concrete on a porch?
The carpet was already there years before I moved in to the home.
Try a heat gun and a metal putty knife and scrape it off. It's gonna take some time.

Might try a hair dryer and a putty knife for removal.
Is there anyway you can just cover it rather than remove?
Without removing the carpet, you might feel a little "give" when walking on your new floor over the carpet.
