Would really like to know how to stretch carpet. I have a cheap carpet in the bedroom that I can't afford to replace right now.

I would call around for a carpet layer who just wants to make a couple of bucks on the side. Many of them like the extra work, and like it even better if you pay them in cash. They all have the tools you need to do it, and the tools are not cheap!
You can rent a carpet stretcher from the hardware store, they aren't that hard to use. You will need to remove the furniture from the room and take up one end of carpet. Stretch carpet and tack down. Good luck!
Joy Jorgensen MacDougall - You will need a carpet Kicker to stretch you carpet back into shape. First remove all the furniture from the room. Pull up the carpet close to your hump. Place the carpet kicker about -3-5" from the wall. Kick the carpet Kicker with your knee, this will pull the carpet to the wall. Stretched carpet needs to be tucked into the wall behind the carpet tack stripp with a flat chisel or large metal putty knife. P.S. Carpet Kicker can be rented at Home Depot Tool rental.
You would need to contact a carpet laying person to fix it.
I agree with Peg
You need to borrow or rent a carpet kicker. Or just call a local carpet store and have them come out and do for you for a nominal fee. I had a few spots in my house done for the same reason. I think I paid $75. Renting the tool would have been $50 . . .
