How can I update my popcorn ceiling?

Everything I’ve seen is messy and labor intensive.

You can cover it with beadboard or decorative faux tin tiles that can be painted. If you choose beadboard, buy the pre-primed kind and paint it before you put it up...that way you only have to touch up.

removing popcorn ceiling IS messy and labor intensive and a pain in the ass... but it is not HARD... and depending on how thick your popcorn ceiling is... and how uneven... it may have to come down before you can put any thing else....
Consider using: bead board, ship lap, pallet wood, real or faux tin ceiling tiles, Venetian Plaster or thin dry wall
