My rug is shedding on the backside and making a big mess. Can it be fixed?

  • I would take it outside then beat it as best as you can to get as much debris out as possible. Then I would cut an old sheet up and sew onto the bottom of the rug. Then to prevent slipping on your floors, purchase the rubber rug grip pad and cut to fit your rug.

IF IT IS A THROW RUG YOU PROBABLY PUT IN DRYER WHICH COOKS THE BACKING. WASH IN COLD, LET AIR DRY THEN PUT IN DRYER FOR A FEW MINUTES TO FLUFF. THIS WON'T HELP THE ONE THAT'S TOAST BUT WILL IN THE FUTURE.

Try to get most of the backing off. You can purchase a super drip rubber spray product and spray that on the back.

    1) shake off as much of the sand/dust as possible. 2 ) Take an old sheet or any fabric & put sheet under rug & trace around rug onto sheet. 3 ) add 1/2 " to the traced marking to turn under so sheet is the size of rug. 3) whip stitch sheet to bottom of rug.

Oh wow, that happens to me with a my apartment! I thought it was a mark of cheap quality (I did not buy it). Since the grit/sand/dust stays UNDER the rug, I just vacuum under the rug after vacuuming the rug once a week. Now I have suggestions to work with! Thanks everyone!

You can paint a coating of roof coating that comes in white. That would make it skid proof. I have done that to some of my rugs that were good but the backing was coming off. Worked out fine.
