Dear Mary Ann, for the scratches use Old Engilsh cover up. It comes in 2 shades, light and dark. You put some on a rag and go over the scratches, wait about 2 hours. Then wipe it with paper towels until the towel is clean. You can buy this in the supermarket. Next, wash your floors with Murphys Oil Soap, which you can get also at the supermarket. Follow the directions on the back.
what floor, digerent remedies for different floor
I would rent a floor cleaning machine from your local hardware store. They have brushes for scrubbing, pads that would remove the old wax and pads that would apply a fresh coat. But I would not put wax on a wood floor. Maybe it needs a new coat of sealer? Take a pic and show it to the employee who rents such a machine. Or get an estimate and a suggestion from a floor refinisher.
