What type of material is your existing floor? If it is linoleum that is in good shape, you can put hard tile over it. Tiling over tile should not be done. As for the doorway transitional marble piece, you will probably need to take it up and reinstall after you have the flooring completed. Lowe's and HD sell transitional doorway strips at a reasonable price if you just want to buy a new piece for esthetic reasons.
Hi Sue! They make peel and stick tiles that you can put down top of your existing floor. Depending on what type of floor you have. It's worth checking out - Home Depot sells them and I've even seen them on Wayfair. It's a cost effective and easy way to change up the look.
