If only the poly coat is scratched, you can moisten a fine steel wool pad with mineral spirits and gently rub the pad over the scratched area. Wipe up with a soft clean cloth and allow to dry. Re-varnish the area with poly to provide a fresh finish.

There is this stuff you can get at Home Depot called Rejuvenate Floor Renewer. It takes out all of the scratches, restores the shine and protects against any more damage. Wood floors need to be kept waxed just like a car does. The wax protects the paint on your car from the elements just like it will your floors. You need to wax a car a few times per year so do the same for your floors. I hope this helps!

Don't know if this idea would work on floors but when I moved into my home there were obvious scratches on the wood cabinet doors. Look like a pet scratched while waiting on his food! Ha.

I bought a pecan stain (same as my cabinets) and just used a cloth and restained over the scratches. Blended perfectly and looked so good I did all the cabinets.

Hope it works for you too.

Old English makes a product called "scratch hide". It works like a stain that makes superficial and deep scratches look much less noticeable.

I love this stuff! I've applied it to entire pieces of wood furniture with this. It refreshes worn wood and covers scratchea, giving the surface a fresh, shiny, new looking finish
