How to change marble floors?

I have bought a house that has marble floors, completely the same on the first floor and the entire stairway. It has floor heating, so it is not cold in wintertime and actually nice and cool in summer. Except on the stairs, surely. BUT, it goes on my nerves. It is a dull boring beige and brown and I would like it to be either shiny and stay like that - I have tried waxing and almost broke my neck, even though it was shiny for a little while - or covered with something washable. I do not want rugs, I have dogs and cat and rugs are not really practical. Does anybody have a suggestion?

Not all tiles, even those made from the same material such as marble,
are shiny. Since the top surface was installed with underfloor heating, to tear the marble out and replace with other tiles that are shiny would be very expensive.
Perhaps after getting a quotation on what the cost of the labour would be to do this, you will not dislike their color so much.

Making marble floors shiny is a disaster waiting to happen. You or a visitor may slip and fall, resulting in serious injury. I'd follow Flipturn's advice. If you can bear the cost to safely change out the marble, go ahead, but inquire about the coeffucient of friction, as it may negatively impact upon the cost of your homeowner's insurance, in the event someone falls.
here is some info for you and from over 30 yrs in house cleaning business I will say that ammonia products, vinegar, etc will take the finish off and make them dull and even make them dingy looking

As Flipturn said, not all marbles and tiles are meant to be shiny as they become incredibly slippery, an accident waiting to happen. If you're that unhappy with their appearance, you can replace them but please avoid anything shiny.

I would love your problem! Having thought about your problem, you might consider using a stick on tile over the centre of the marble tiles or maybe Contact. Otherwise overlay with a Laminate floor or Vinyl. Best of luck!
You could paint it. I'd test one tile first to see how it goes.
Excellent point raised by both Olivia and Becky as to the safety factor of very shiny tiles as a flooring surface. It is interesting that Jackson has already mentioned 'almost breaking their neck' when trying to wax the tiles.......
