How to find out cause of discolored floor.?

Can anyone give an opinion on what caused discoloration in floor?
Looks like water damage to me? Are the floors waxed? if so I would test a spot removal with some mineral spirits to see if it will remove it. If not you will need to sand down and refinish.
Did you have a rug on top.

Did you use a floor cleaner not recommended for wood floors? If yes, clean with Bona mixed with a little white vinegar Use a micro cloth to clean and then dry. It may take a couple of times.
It looks like paint was spilled and not cleaned up very well and left a residue
Could be one of many things that caused it. To clean it, try using a floor steam cleaner. I luv my HAAN but Shark, Bissell, Hoover, etc. also make them.
