How to fix a chip in laminate flooring

Linda
by Linda
Our new laminate flooring has been in for about a month. Last week I noticed a tiny chip in it close to the transition piece. It is about the size of a sharpened pencil. I would put a picture but my computer needs some work so it won't let me do it. Does anyone know what to use to fill in the chip and what to color it with?

My suggestion is to reach out to the manufacturer. This is truly a question that should be answered by a professional.
  • if the chip is that tiny get a marker the same color and add a dot of it to the chipped out area, no one will notice a slightly different color.

@Victoria Nicolazzi Collins I tried with a color marker for furniture, the color is real close but you can tell its a chip in the floor. I guess what I'm worried about is I don't want foot traffic to catch on it and possibly make more come off. It is at the entry way into my bedroom. I will probably buy a small rug to put over it but I really would like to fill in the chip with something to protect it more.

They have wood crayons at the hardware store. If you are looking to camouflage, this will work, after you get the color in, take a blow dryer to it, this will give it full coverage as well as put a shine to it. After it dries put a small dab of super glue to fill it. Otherwise if you have an extra piece, replacement is best
  • If its deep you could buy wood putty and using an old credit card go over the area with a tiny amount of the filler and going over the edges to seal them make the area as smooth as possible. I have no luck with "furniture" markers. I went down the craft isle and picked the darkest color closest to the darkest color of my laminate floor and used that. Good luck.

If my new laminate flooring was chipped after only one month of being installed, I would be calling whoever installed it and demanding they fix it! After all, laminate floors have warranties and I 'm pretty sure it's longer than 1 month! Laminate floors click together so it shouldn't be too difficult to remove the chipped piece and put a new piece in! Don't settle! You paid for it. They took your money so they should be dealing with it not you!

Have not got to try or call the store that I bought it from and installed it. We have a sickness going around in my house and I can barely talk. Hope for us to all be well by Christmas. Thanks for all the answers.
