How to retexture a ceiling?

The ceiling in our home was poorly patched. What is the best way to fix this problem? Thank you for your help!
I don't think you can ever really get the texture right unless you are a professional. Maybe you should consider taking it all off and skim coating it with plaster and painting.
We had the same problem so we add cedar board to the ceiling...in all the rooms some we left natural others we painted white simple and great look
When they were patching my ceiling they used an old style mop I believe. I personally don't like it but being the ceiling it will be last thing redone. A mop or brush and spackle or mud like is used for wall joints, a ladder or a tall person should repair it.
We had the exact same problem when we took a wall down. We had someone come in and do a technique called 'skip troweling' and we we satisfied with the end result. Good luck! I also love the wood ceiling that someone suggested.

Not difficult to do at all you can get the wood from home Depot or Lowe's...it comes in strips of 6 ft or 8 ft I can't remember...it's toungue and groove...we used liquid nails and a nail gun. If you are going to do it white prime the wood first then put it up...one room take about a day. I happened to get my wood on sale one time. I was about 200 for cedar and the pine was about 100 per room good luck. We get so many compliments
