How to pull up indoor/outdoor carpet that has been glued to floor?

I want to take this up and put laminate floor down.

You did not state what type of floor its glued to. If its wood you have yourself a pretty good chore ahead of you, cement pretty easy. In both cases you need to recruit the help of a friend. One needs to pull the carpet back as you use one of several types of scrapers. One is hand held on a long pole, has a sharp edge and by simply sliding back and fourth you will be able to cut into the adhesive enough to free the carpet. Easy with cement, but with wood floor it tends to dig into the wood, So you need to be a bit more careful with that. There is also a power version of this scraper. http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3195467 it is fastened to your reciprocating saw. And it easily will cut into the glue and backing releasing the carpet from the floor. But again. use care with the wood floor. Once the carpet is removed, you need to remove as much of the glue and what was left of the backing as you can. You do not need to go nuts, only enough so when the padding for the new laminate goes on there are no bumps. The stickiness that resides will simply help hold the padding in place while you staple it onto the floor.

I remember seeing a metal floor scraper at Home Depot for a reasonable price last year. I agree with Woodbridge that a wood floor would offer the greatest challenge but I'm guessing that you're working with concrete. Let the grunting and pulling begin! Good Luck.

There is another type of scraper you can use. They make one that can be rented. This power scraper is a bit heavy, but will make short work of the carpet. This unit is used for carpet or vinyl tile removal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YM6z3leZvm4

Why not leave the carpet glued down and lay the flooring over the top? Extra insulation. Might work??
