What is a cheap easy way to make over a floor?

There's a variety of products you can choose to redo your floors--all in different prices and quality. You can go with stick on tile, floating plank floors, or sheet vinyl for inexpensive choices. There's LOTS to choose from out there. You can also find carpet and lay it yourself. If your rooms are small you can find nice quality carpet pieces that may fit at reasonable prices. It all depends upon what amount of money you want to spend and what your DIY skills are. Typically if you can do it yourself you are saving quite a bit of money.

It depends on what is already there. All the floors in our old house are wood. From pine to walnut and oak. I have painted a lot of these and we are very satisfied with the look and ease of painting. However it depends on what you like. Personally I dislike wall to wall carpeting and even if I have carpeting that was wall to wall, I would have it cut and bound so it could be sent to the cleaners. One room we have has 6 angles, that I had cut to fit, but we tired of that and I painted the floor. I saw a plywood floor in a business that had been scorched with a blow torch. It brought out the grain and looked terrific. In a small area that gets a lot of wear, I had a small piece of linoleum cut and I edged it in white duct tape (that didn't last more than 5 or so years so I guess I will paint the border) we have peel and stick tile in our bathroom (removed previous covering) and if my husband hadn't dropped something heavy on one of the tiles and broken it, it would still look great after many years. However most of the time we are a 2 person family. We have a linoleum floor in our back hall that was there when we moved in, in 1971, I have painted it but only twice. This area gets a lot of wear.

It’s going to depend on what the floor is currently and what the room’s use is as well. If it’s wood or tile, you can paint, otherwise you’ll be looking at removal and replacement. Or you can layer area rugs.
