Depends on what you put over it later. Laminated and hardwoods and carpet will be fine but sometimes sheet vinyl, or luxury tile will absorb the colors and eventually let them bleed through. However you could probably use a primer or seal over the paint and be successful with vinyl.
Yes, of course - just paint or stain it until you can put down the new floor. And I recommend that you take a look at the new luxury vinyl plank flooring that is so easy to put down and looks like wood and easy to clean.
I, too, recommend the paint job. Outdoor porch floor paint. My son did this while saving for his vinyl plank. I am in love with vinyl plank!
A sturdy oil based paint will work nicely, in addition it will also serve to seal the underlay and protect it somewhat from traffic and moisture. I did this in a rental home I owned and it looked quite impressive. I used a paint that was intended for garage floor use.
Yes, absolutely you can paint the floor. Have you checked out plywood flooring and what other hometalkers are creating? Beautiful floors! Looks just like hard wood flooring for much less. Best of luck.
I'm in the process of painting my craft room floor with slate gray floor paint. I used leveler to fill in the small gaps of the subfloor. It hasn't been especially hard to do and looks amazing. I'm planning on a new floor in the future, but, I am happy with what I am doing with it right now. I've seen some beautiful colors that plywood has been painted so pick a color that you will enjoy. I used Kilz floor paint, but I found out it isn't available locally and had to order it online. My only advice is make sure you have the tools you need (I had planned on using a roller, but, ended up brushing most of it on). I cleaned the floor really well before starting, but, still found small amounts of debris here and there (keep a small dustpan and brush handy or a damp cloth). I like it so much, that I'm also painting the wood floor in my hallway where the wood is past the point of refinishing but, looks great painted.
This is painted with Rustolum floor paint then I stenciled it!! Yep crazy but great outcome
