How do I measure for a floor tile installation?

We are remodeling our master bathroom which has a tub now to a shower stall. The flooring needs new tiles. When calculating for tile do we need to measure underneath where shower is being installed or just the exposed area? Thanks

You'll need to measure your shower's "pan" (floor area), but typically, smaller tiles are used in a shower to insure more grout lines and less liklihood of slippage.
If your shower won't be any wider than the existing bathtub's footprint, measure your existing floor space, assuming you'll install a larger tile in this space. Remember to allow a minimum of 10% extra tile when you purchase, in event of breakage.
Are you not tiling shower? Length x width + 10%. You don't tile under a prefab shower but I tile under the vanity. It makes for a better job, also under toilet.
Cosette, Measure the entire room, then subtract the tiles that would go under the tub and shower stall. Depending on the tile size. Aloha!
Hi, Take the room measurement as a whole along to the tile shop and ask them to calculate the tiles required.
